Supporting Flemish and Local Governments
Digitaal Vlaanderen (Flanders Digital) is the dedicated partner for the Flemish and Local governments. It supports them in their transformation efforts towards a Digital Future. At the beginning of 2021, Flanders Digital was created by bringing together Informatie Vlaanderen and the IT department of Flanders Facility Management. It supports a wide range of products and platforms, ranging from front desks and front office solutions to ICT management and security, and even data management.
The world of Public Services is constantly changing, and adapting to new technologies and innovations is necessary to meet customer and citizen needs. Managing a government IT infrastructure is a complex matter, this meant that digitizing government services called for a resilient but flexible solution to adapt to fast-changing requirements.
Digital Blocks Built for a Digital Future
Flanders Digital chose to work with Digital Building Blocks. These are small to medium-sized functionalities that can be plugged into a Salesforce Org. You can compare these blocks with apps in the iTunes store or the Google Marketplace. Each block serves a specific purpose and can be repurposed for different departments or even adapted and augmented if necessary. The idea is to create a library of blocks that allow for fast and secure implementation of new functionalities.
Flanders Digital needed a reliable partner to help analyse and build these blocks. Because of Brightfox’s experience as a Salesforce implementation partner with local government and their vast knowledge in integration projects, they were chosen to help Flanders Digital build and enhance their library of Building Blocks. Helping local governments such as the City of Hasselt and Knokke-Heist with their integration needs had a positive impact in this project. It demonstrated their skills to seamlessly merge various systems and requirements into Building Blocks.
A Library of Functional Features
Brightfox has been instrumental in advancing several key components as they construct and maintain building blocks. Firstly, they documented the requirements for integrating a CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) system, enabling seamless handling of calls in Salesforce and allowing staff to leverage the full potential of Salesforce data for optimal call responses.
Because most departments now use digital front desks, Brightfox ensured citizens could use a digital signature to validate official documents, introducing the eSign Building Block and enabling users to use electronic signatures.
For the creation of “Mijn Burgerprofiel” (My Citizen’s profile), a portal offering citizens an overview of their interactions with the government, Brightfox played a crucial role. This involved linking the login banner to Salesforce, implementing a package for DOSIS (Case File Status Information System), and setting up a notification system for citizens whenever new information became available.
Addressing the needs of the Documentation Department (MAGDA), Brightfox established a unifying process by connecting systems like KRING, MAGDA, and KSZ, facilitating efficient document authentication.
Brightfox developed “Databron” (Data Source), a register with addresses and organizations used by public servants. They managed security through ACM/IDM, Apigee, and BYOK3.
Bridging Gaps in Displacement and Employment
In addition, Brightfox repurposed components from Flanders Digital to establish a platform for registering displaced persons from Ukraine. They also contributed to the creation of a solution for managing the integration process of newcomers.
Furthermore, Brightfox successfully integrated a previous project at VDAB, the Flemish Department for Employment, into the Salesforce Building Blocks, showcasing their skills in adapting and extending their expertise to various projects.
Building Blocks for a Bright Future
Brightfox continues to fuel innovation by actively contributing to the development of new Salesforce building blocks. These include enhancements to Mijn Burgerprofiel, platform security and more.
